Chart Navigator Pro terminates unexpectedly when Norton Anti-virus is installed or running on my system. How can this be corrected?

DISCUSSION

While quite useful for protecting your computer from hackers and thieves, some versions of Norton Anti-virus do not work well with Chart Navigator Pro. In attempting to do it’s job, Norton will scan every chart that Chart Navigator Pro opens, and may block Internet access for items such as updates and weather predictions. Norton has also been known to delete various database files used for tide and current predictions and guidebook information.

If Norton Anti-virus appears to be interfering with Chart Navigator Pro, be sure to get the latest application updates for Norton Anti-Virus. Note that such updates are different than the various virus "definition files" that are often served directly to your PC.

We have also noted that Norton Anti-virus will sometimes interfere with the install process. If problems persist (or the tidal or guidebook displays are not functioning) use "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall Chart Navigator Pro, disable Norton Anti-virus, then re-install Chart Navigator Pro.

If all else fails, you may wish to consider a different form of virus protection. We use McAfee VirusScan from Network Associates and it appears to be fully compatible with Chart Navigator Pro.
