DISCUSSION
Generally, when providing a real-time position, Maptech software uses information from your GPS in order to determine your vessel's heading . Usually it is trying to determine the your heading based on the reported COG. If the vessel is not moving, or moving very slowly, the software can not determine which direction you are actually heading, and the result is a flopping movement. You can install additional hardware of a High-Speed Digital Compass in order to acquire your heading without it being based off of the COG, and eliminate the issue altogether. If the Vessel icon is flopping back and forth, it is because you are not moving, or are moving slowly, and the Chart Orientation is set to "North Up" or "Chart Up". To stop the flopping movement, click the Vessel/GPS menu, and choose the checked option Position From GPS. This will disengage the vessel icon from the incoming GPS data. When you are ready to return to a real-time position, click the Vessel/GPS menu, and choose the option Position From GPS. This will engage the vessel icon with the incoming GPS data again. If the Chart itself is flopping back and forth, it is because you are not moving, or are moving slowly, and the Chart Orientation is set to "Course Up". When this is occurring, this can make it very difficult to create Routes or place Marks . To stop the flopping movement, you can do a couple of different things: 1) Change the Chart Orientation from "Course Up" to ""Chart Up"" or "North Up"". This will cause the chart to stop flop, and the vessel icon will instead. When done planning, you can return to the Course Up orientation. or 2) Click the Vessel/GPS menu, and choose the checked option Position From GPS. This will disengage the Vessel icon from the incoming GPS data. When you are ready to return to a real-time position, click the Vessel/GPS menu, and choose the option Position From GPS. This will engage the vessel icon with the incoming GPS data again. |
